FOSSA
What is
FOSSA?
FOSSA
stands for Free and Open Source
Software of Afghanistan.
This is a project designed to develop and promote free and open source
software projects for Afghanistan. Initially, we will promote
freely distributable software packages for use inside
Afghanistan. The final goal, however, is to develop localized
versions of these software packages in the languages of Afghanistan.
Why does
FOSSA exist?
Why is this being done? The people of Afghanistan face
several major challenges when it comes acquiring and using software:
- Commercial software is rarely available and much too
expensive for the average Afghan
- Very little software is available in languages of Afghanistan
- Commercial software gives little opportunity for programs to
be modified for specific situations in Afghanistan
Who is
behind FOSSA?
FOSSA is currently being spearheaded by ClintG of Rokhana
Technology Group. However, there is the hope that FOSSA will
become a collaborative project of the people of Afghanistan.
